Supernatural: The 5 Tallest (And 5 Shortest) Actors In The Cast (2024)

Supernatural spent 15 seasons following Dean (Jensen Ackles) and the much taller Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) as they battled angels, demons, and monsters, but many fans wondered "How tall is Jared Padalecki?" Dean put it upon himself to protect the younger of the two Winchester brothers, but Sam proved time and time again that he didn't need a protector because he was powerful enough on his own. He was also a good four inches taller than his big brother, and he cast a pretty imposing shadow over the creatures that they had to kill to protect humanity.

Over the years that Supernatural was on the air, several major cast members came and went from the show, some friends and allies of the Winchester boys and others enemies, often strong Supernatural villains set to hinder their goals of clearing the planet of all the evil monsters and demons that threatened humanity. Some of these were played by actors who were taller, close to at least Jensen Ackles' height, and others who stood on the shorter side of average when it comes to the height of the show's bright stars.

Tallest Supernatural Cast Members

Alexander Calvert, 5 Ft. 10

Alexander Calvert, who plays Jack, stands at a solid 5 foot 10 inches, making him one of the tallest actors on Supernatural. Even though Calvert is not a short man, he sometimes looks like he is, as he often is on camera next to his costars, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins (Castiel), all of whom are taller than him.

While Jack isn't the tallest cast member, he is still the most powerful Supernatural character in the series. Jack is a Nephilim, meaning he is the child of an angel and a human. The fact that his father is none other than Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino), one of the most powerful of the archangels, makes him even more powerful than a typical Nephilim. By the end of Supernatural, Jack took over all God's powers and reigned in Heaven, showing that he doesn't have to be the tallest person to be the most important.

Misha Collins, 5 Ft. 11

Misha Collins might look small while sharing the screen with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, but he is not short at all. Though he may not stand out compared to the Winchester brothers, Collins, who portrays the angel Castiel, is one of thetaller members of the Supernatural cast, standing at 5 foot 11. It's the perfect height for an angel — tall enough to be a commanding presence, yet not overwhelmingly so.

Castiel wasn't supposed to be a long-lasting Supernatural cast member, but his popularity allowed him to stick around a lot longer than intended. He ended up dying multiple times, but he made it all the way to the end of the show before finally dying (seemingly) for good. Lucky for him, he had a friend in Jack, who took over for God and resurrected him one more time to serve with him in a rehabilitated Heaven. While Castiel didn't quite hit the six-foot mark, he was still a big enough presence on the show to make it to the finale.

Jensen Ackles, 6 Ft.

Jensen Ackles, Dean Winchester himself, is not a small person. He's an impressive 6 feet tall. That being said, he shares a majority of his screen time with Jared Padalecki, who stands at a whopping 6 foot 4, meaning that Ackles often looks shorter than he is. In every project that Ackles is in without Padalecki, he is often among the tallest, but that is not the case on Supernatural. This was evident when Ackles took on a role in The Boys as Soldier Boy. He never looked small when standing up to The Homelander.

As for Supernatural, it was almost ironic that Dean Winchester was shorter than his little brother Sam. While Dean took it as his responsibility to protect Sam, something that caused problems between them more than once on the show, having his kid brother dwarf him in size on the screen made that entire aspect of their relationship seem even more impressive, because Dean always stood up to his enemies — no matter how big they were.

Mark Pellegrino, 6 Ft. 2

It's only natural that the man who plays Lucifer be one of the tallest actors in the cast. Mark Pellegrino, also known as the archangel Lucifer, stands at a formidable 6 foot 2, making him the intimidating, looming presence that he should be. He measures up nicely next to Padalecki (2 inches taller) and Ackles (2 inches shorter), which is quite fitting considering he is often the antagonist behind all the terrible things that happen in the show.

Of course, Pellegrino was not the only person to serve as Lucifer's vessel. The people who possessed the archangel Lucifer ranged in height, with Jared Padalecki being the tallest (6 ft 4), followed by singer Rick Springfield (6 ft 1), and Misha Collins (5 ft 11). As one of the most powerful archangels (along with Michael), it makes sense that he is the tallest of the group of troublesome angels.

Jared Padalecki, 6 Ft. 4

Standing at an impressive 6 foot 4, Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam Winchester, is often the tallest person in every project he is in, from Gilmore Girls and Walker to Supernatural. Far more often than not, he is the biggest person on camera, looming over all his costars and making them look smaller than they actually are, including his formidable big brother Dean (Jensen Ackles).

Sam Winchester is one of the two main characters of the show and is quite a dominating, intimidating, strong presence. Padalecki's formidable height and muscular frame certainly add to that, proving that he doesn't need his big brother to stand up for him and he can often deal damage to any villain, monster, demon, or angel that crosses his path. Since Sam was the one who originally didn't want to hunt at all anymore, it is ironic that he was the more dominating presence, at least from a height standpoint.

Shortest Supernatural Cast Members

Felicia Day, 5 Ft. 5

Supernatural has its fair share of shorter cast members, and Felicia Day is no exception. Her character, Charlie Bradbury, makes her debut in season 7, instantly becoming a fan favorite. Even though a lot of the women on the show are decently short compared to Jensen Ackles (6 ft) and Jared Padalecki (6 ft 4), Day is about 5 foot 5, which isn't unusually short, but it still makes her one of the smallest Supernatural actors.

While Charlie wasn't the tallest person on the show, she had a lot of heart and never backed down from a fight. One of the saddest deaths on Supernatural came when Charlie died protecting a book that could help (or hurt) Sam and Dean Winchester. Some of Day's biggest success following her stint on Supernatural came with fans not even seeing her on screen, as she has voiced characters in Adventure Time, Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters, and Skylanders Academy.

Genevieve Padalecki, 5 Ft. 4

Genevieve Padalecki, who portrays the demon Ruby in Season 4, is one of the shorter members of the cast at 5 foot 4. Though she may be petite, Padalecki's character is one of the most dangerous, deceptive demons on the show. She manipulates Sam into breaking the last seal and starting the apocalypse at one point. Interestingly, Genevieve and Jared actually met on Supernatural in 2008, getting married in real life two years later, in 2010.

While Genevieve Padalecki is a full foot shorter than her husband, she not only dominated and manipulated him on Supernatural as Ruby, but she accompanied him to his next show Walker, where she played his on-screen wife as well in flashback scenes. Her character's death is what motivated Walker to set out to hunt down criminals once again. She also starred in a recurring role on FlashForward after her time on Supernatural came to an end.

Shoshannah Stern, 5 Ft. 3

Funnily enough, Shoshannah Stern doesn't seem like one of the shortest people in the Supernatural cast, but she is definitely one of the smallest actors on the show. Making her debut in season 11, Stern's character, Eileen, is certainly petite, but oftentimes one assumes that she looks small simply because she is usually on-screen with Jared Padalecki. At 5 foot 3, Stern is definitely shorter than most Supernatural actors and stands a full 1 ft 1 inch shorter than Padalecki, as he is easily the tallest actor in the series.

However, Eileen's height did not stop her from killing as many demons as anyone else on the show(not named Winchester). Her parents died and she was an Irish-American hunter who fought as a hearing-impaired warrior (a Banshee took her hearing when she was a child). Her grandfather was also a Man of Letters, making her a legacy hunter, and one of the most dangerous on the show.

Ruth Connell, 5 Ft. 2

Ruth Connell, who plays Rowena MacLeod, is not tall compared to other actors on Supernatural, but she has an impressively impactful presence. A slim woman standing at a mere 5 foot 2, Connell sometimes looks like a child when on-screen with her much taller costars. However, this makes her very deceptive. Despite her small frame, Rowena is one of the most powerful characters of Supernatural, as a natural witch turned Queen of Hell, proving that size doesn't matter, and she can take out anyone in the blink of an eye.

Rowena first appeared in the tenth season, and by the time she became the Queen of Hell, the Winchester boys knew that underestimating her was a huge mistake. Jared Padalecki may stand 6 ft 4, but he was mostly powerless when facing Rowena, and he knew that his height advantage meant nothing when faced with her powerful magic. Connell also appeared in the DC Comics series Doom Patrol as Night Nurse, and Rowena returned in the Supernatural prequel series The Winchesters.

Lauren Tom, 5 Ft. 1

Lauren Tom's Linda Tran may be small, but she packs a powerful punch. Tran is a strong character, and certainly not one to cross,even though she stands at a mere 5 foot 1. Standing next to Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins, she certainly looks tiny (they are all between 5 ft 11 and 6 ft 4), but their characters are all very impressed by (and even a little scared by) her grit, toughness, and feisty personality. Sometimes shorter people are tougher, and Linda proves that.

While most of the attention went to her son, Kevin Tran, who died and ended up as a ghost, Linda was a formidable character on the show regardless. Other than appearing on Supernatural, Lauren Tom has mostly voiced characters in animated shows since then. She has voice roles in Pound Puppies (Agent Ping), Teen Titans Go! (Jinx), Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia (Mary Wang), Disenchantment (various voices), and Star Trek Lower Decks (the U.S.S. Vancouver Captain).
